Two Small Distractions

I haven’t intentionally abandoned my blog. Last Monday, this happened:

Four little puppies needed a home and fast so my two housemates and I agreed to foster two of them until they are old enough to be found a permanent home. That’s Ollie, named after Oliver Twist (the orphan who wanted more, just like our little puppy when it comes to cuddles), on the left and Freddie, named after Freddy Krueger (Monday was Halloween), on the right. They are absolutely adorable but a handful to say the least. Every day they become livelier and more inquisitive, not to mention bigger. I’ve been spending most of my free time with them to make sure they aren’t causing complete havoc, and also just to get my fair share of puppy snuggles, so I’ve barely been near the computer.

I did manage to drag myself away from the fluff balls for a few hours on Sunday afternoon and went for a wander round Dublin. I had been told about a fantastic tea shop in Rathmines, House of Tea, so Davinia and I stopped there for a pot of tea and a scone each. Divine!

I plan on going back soon to buy a few loose teas and get myself a proper pot and strainer. I do love a good cup of tea 🙂

One of the things I love about Dublin is that there is such a variety of quirky little spots for you to stumble upon. As we were walking home we passed an Oriental Emporium and decided to pop in. The last time we passed one neither of us was in a position to do any shopping, so this time we decided to buy a few things and agreed to pick at least one item that we had never tried before and had no idea what it would taste like. I ended up getting two items I wasn’t sure about: a sharon fruit (a.k.a. a persimmon) and some pots of ‘lychee flavoured jelly pudding with coconut gel pieces’. I haven’t tried the fruit yet but the pudding is … interesting. Davinia ended up with pork floss. I also popped into a Polish grocery shop earlier in the day and bought some rather yummy chocolates.

Roasted seaweed, lychee puddings, sharon fruit, tofu, miso soup and peanut covered chocolates.
Not my average shopping list.

I cooked with seaweed and tofu for the first time. Quite proud of that! However, now I have a lot of seaweed left and I’m not entirely sure what to do with it.

I will make sure I find some time this week to put together the proper post I had planned. Until then, I shall leave you with this:

 Awwww 🙂
